Saint jacques is a completely renovated auberge/manor house
situated in the heart of a charming solognot village just 15 minutes south of orleans and 1 ½ hours from paris.
We bought the delapited hotel/restaurant in march 2002 and
have spent the last four years renovating it. Luckily the
façade didn't need to be changed !
Downstairs you will find a large living area where, during the
winter months a warming fire is going at all times. This living
area gives on to the dining area where breakfast and dinners
are served family style. Just behind the dining area is a cozy
library with tons of books in both french and english (don't
forget i started the paris book store tea and tattered pages !).
You will find numerous books on the area and also on french
history, culture and cuisine. In addition there are
several game tables for your use,
please visit our semi-professionel kitchen where our cooking classes are given. There is also a private entrance to our public
cocktail bar/art gallery "le coin perdu".
Upstairs you will find a office where you are more than
welcome to check out your email.
There are two guest rooms upstairs each equipped with a
private bathroom. Our private living quarters are also located upstairs,
as you exit behind the house you will come across our
wonderfully landscaped terrace where, as soon as it is warm
enough breakfasts and dinners are served (just wait to see
our famous barbeques !)
The parking area is on the other side of the terrace and we try
very hard to keep it from view. The renovated stable is situated in the courtyard, here there are three rooms each equipped with a private bathroom, tv,
and video (bring your own or choose from our vast library in
french and english).
Our 2.500 m2 garden runs down to a lovely stream with a
view of the park across the way (which, incidently has a
fishing pond where, for a small fee you can fish to your
heart's content). I love to curl up with a book in the
swinging chair underneath a shady tree in the
garden. Badminton, croquet, and ping pong as well
as bicycles are available for your pleasure (hundreds of
kilometers of hiking/biking trails leave from our back door !)
About us, we are a franco-american family, I am american and
have been living in france for 19 years while my husband hails
from the north of france.
Alexandra and Samantha Chavane are
my daughters who are bilingual and bi-cultural, but
our family is not complete without our dogs, cat, goldfish and
our chickens who gives us our fresh eggs. |
